【Pokémon GO】Max Battle: Complete Guide to Participation, Rewards, and Collecting MP!

Pokémon GO’s “Max Battles” are cooperative battles that occur at purple “Power Spots” on the map. Trainers at Level 13 or higher can challenge these battles using only Dynamax Pokémon by consuming Max Particles (MP). Utilize the time-limited, 3-turn Dynamax Moves to defeat the boss and earn rewards. Here is a thorough guide on collecting MP and tips for different difficulty levels!

Participation Requirements and Preparation

  • Trainer Level: 13 or higher
  • Required Item: Max Particles (MP) (e.g., a 1-Star Max Battle might cost 250 MP). MP is only consumed upon victory. You can re-challenge for free if you lose.
  • Party: Up to 3 Dynamax Pokémon only (at least one is required). A dedicated party must be set. Mega Evolved Pokémon and regular Pokémon cannot be used.

Battle Flow and Features

  • Joining: Approach and tap the Power Spot. After a lobby period (max 120 seconds), the battle begins.
  • Attack: Use Normal Attacks (tapping the screen) to fill the Max Meter.
  • When the meter is full, Dynamax activates for a limited 3 turns.
  • During Dynamax, use Max Moves (e.g., Max Strike, Max Guard/Dynamax Wall).
  • Defense: Swipe left or right to dodge the boss’s attacks. A warning indicator appears over your Pokémon when targeted.
  • Acceleration: Swipe to move your Pokémon and collect Energy Icons on the battlefield to rapidly fill the Max Meter.
  • Outcome: The battle has no time limit, but you lose if all your Pokémon faint.
  • Bonus: The more Trainers’ Pokémon are placed at the Power Spot, the stronger the attack bonus you receive.

Rewards and Post-Victory Actions

  • Victory Reward: A chance to capture the Dynamax Boss (number of Premier Balls depends on performance). Shiny encounters are possible.
  • Items and XP.
  • Post-Victory Action: You can place one of your Dynamax Pokémon at the Power Spot (the placing Trainer earns Candy, and this Pokémon provides a bonus to other Trainers).

How to Collect Max Particles (MP)

  • Collecting at Power Spots (Daily limit of 800 MP).
  • Walking (Obtained every 2km).
  • Shop Purchase (e.g., 800 MP for 150 PokéCoins).

Important Notes and Tips

  • Difficulty: 1-Star Max Battles are easy to solo, but 3-Star and above are highly recommended for multiple people. 6-Star Gigantamax Battles should be attempted with a large group (recommended 10-40 people).
  • Participation Method: Remote participation is not possible (local only. However, remote invites might be possible in the future).
  • Events: “Max Battle Day” events feature a concentrated appearance of specific boss Pokémon.
